               Key Club Convention 2008

Division 44 Kiwanian Veteran's Honor Guard at the opening ceremony of the Key Club Convention this past Friday.  Jim Legler, Lt Gov Div 44 carried the CA flag, Dick Anderson, Past Lt Gov Div 44 had Nevada, Gov. Oscar Knight carried the US flag and Ken Delfino, Cal-Nev-Ha Patriotism Chairperson had Hawaii.
It really went well,  the hundreds of Key Clubbers did standing ovations after each flag was brought out as the veteran was introduced with a bit of his service history.

Gentlemen:
First off, thank you again for answering the call to present our colors at the Key Club convention Friday night. Thank you Jim and Dick for taking the time to come down even though you weren't sticking around for the convention.
What you didn't hear is the motivational speaker, Scott Greenburg, give us a nice recognition for our presentation. Backstage, Pete Ballew and a couple of other Kiwanians also mentioned what a nice touch it was to have veterans
present the colors. Then last night after the dinner, Division 30 PLG Claudia Parras tracked me down to tell me that her Key Clubbers were very moved.  Three of them are in ROTC and at least one of them decided that he/she WILL join the Army because of us. A couple of other Kiwanians also made mention of our presentation so gentlemen...I cannot add too much to that!
Rae, thank you so much for extending this invitation to us. I know that some of the organizers may have been concerned about the timing, but no one is more concerned about timing than those who have been on time-sensitive operations
such as on military operations. I think "the unknown" led to this trepidation, but I hope they now know they can count on us to do what is needed to do in the timely manner in which it needs to be done.
On behalf of our team, I say thank you for the invitation.
Ken
